Like most people, you probably read that statement and thought, "I can't read Spanish, what am I supposed to do with that?" Well, that is how many parents of Pleasant View students feel each and every day. The reason is that they cannot speak English. We need to help these families. The previous announcement in English is, "Your child has been tardy six times this grading period. Please call Karen at the school to talk about this problem. 614-801-3900." This could be a major problem and if a parent cannot read the announcement, they cannot help their child overcome the problem.
This site contains information on
the need for funds to purchase software that will translate English-language
documents into
Spanish and Russian documents. The funds are critical for the 112
students at Pleasant View Middle School that have Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
By awarding these funds, students and their parents will be able to understand
school documents because they will be translated into their native languages.
The school must reach out to these students and their families. The project at
Pleasant View Middle School to use translation software will do that. We
will be able to reach these families and they will be able to understand school
announcements.
